Welcome to The LSAT This Week! This is a weekly blog series with all you need to know about the LSAT®, including upcoming deadlines, how to prepare for the test, how to avoid having your session flagged, and more. Be sure to come back often to read the latest information you’ll need to know as you prepare for your test.
As you continue your path to law school, including completion of the application process, LSAC is here to help you along the way. We invite you to visit LawHub to explore the many programs and products available to guide you through your legal education journey.
LSAT Registration
Registration for the October LSAT, which is open to U.S., Canada, and international test takers, will close on Thursday, August 31.
As a reminder, test takers have the option to register for any LSAT administration through June 2024.
Please note that, when registering, test takers will be asked to state their preference of whether to test at home or at a test center. Regardless of your choice, you will not make your final decision until after scheduling opens for the administration you’re registering for. For more information, please visit our website to view the testing dates and learn more about testing at a test center or testing remotely.
August LSAT Deadlines
Remote test takers have until Tuesday, August 8 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time to schedule their test. The deadline to schedule in-person tests has already passed.
If you are unable to schedule your test by this deadline, you can opt to request a test date change (fees may apply) through your LSAC account.
LSAT Writing: LSAT Writing opens on Thursday, August 3. All test takers must have a completed LSAT Writing sample on file in order to receive their score or have their score released to law schools. Given the large volume of test takers, we strongly encourage you to complete your LSAT Writing as soon as it becomes available.
Score Preview: Score preview is available for purchase for $45 until Thursday, August 10. Score preview allows you to see your LSAT score before deciding whether to keep it and have it reported to law schools or, alternatively, cancel the score.
After the August LSAT from August 19 through August 28, score preview is available for $75.
September LSAT Deadlines
Registration for the September LSAT is now closed. Scheduling will open on Wednesday, August 9.
If you opt to take your September 2023 LSAT at a Prometric test center, you have until Wednesday, August 16 at 11:59 p.m. (local time) to schedule your test. Those testing in the live, remotely proctored format have until Tuesday, September 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET to schedule their test.
Test Taker Pro-Tip of the Week: The New “Find Text” Field
LSAC announced last week that, due to enhanced security measures, keyboard commands, such as CTRL-F, will no longer be available while taking the LSAT. As a result, we are introducing an alternative that will provide similar functionality to CTRL-F, as described below. This change will affect all LSAT test takers regardless of whether they’re testing remotely or in person at a Prometric test center.
We know that many test takers have been practicing using CTRL-F, so we’re continuing to provide a search tool within the testing environment. The LawHub team has developed a new “find text” function that will be prominently shown on every page within the top toolbar section. (See image below)
You will be able to enter the term you’re searching for in the “find text” field. The results of the search will be highlighted with orange tags or identifiable by a screen reader if the test taker is visually impaired. In the sample below, if you enter the term “data” in the “find text” field, every occurrence of the word “data” will be highlighted on your screen or identified by your screen reader. (See image below).
To reset the “find text” field, you can simply erase the term you searched.
Please note that the “find text” box will appear on all the pages of your LSAT, and you will not be able to dismiss it.
To enable you to practice using this feature, the “find text” box has been implemented on all practice tests available through LawHub. Detailed instructions on how to use the “find text” tool will be available within the “Need help?” area of LawHub.
