Summary of Position

Description

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Admissions, the Associate Director of International Affairs and Graduate Admissions will administer and supervise international and non-JD programs at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in coordination with law faculty. The Associate Director will manage all admission aspects of graduate programs, including student orientation, academic advising, career, and bar admission counseling. They will lead recruitment efforts for the LLM and SJD programs, including creating and/or overseeing the creation of recruitment materials, performing domestic and international outreach, and follow-up with potential candidates. Additionally, the Associate Director will manage degree progress of the two LLM programs, Comparative Legal Studies, and Environmental Law, along with Visiting Scholars and SJD students. They will advise international students regarding visa issues, in conjunction with Pace University’s International Students and Scholars Office. The role also involves coordinating with Admissions, Career and Professional Development, Development, Communications Student Services, Academic Success, and the Office of Student Affairs on new and ongoing international program initiatives. The Associate Director will also manage international study abroad and exchange opportunities including execution and maintenance of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) agreements with foreign institutions.

 

Position Duties

  • International Relationships Development of international contacts, LOI, MOU, MOA with non-US law schools and other institutions.
  • Management of existing international relationships.
  • Visiting Scholar program: Management of invitation, immigration, orientation and settlement for three to six visiting scholars on campus at any given time.
  • Marketing and Recruitment for LLM and SJD Programs
  • Development of academic and administrative regulations, Graduate Handbook, Student Orientation for Fall and Spring semesters, academic honesty and honor code. 
  • Teach Intro to American Legal System (Two credits).
  • Serve as advisor for all foreign students.
  • For SJD applicants, work with ENV faculty to identify potential supervisors Work with faculty to form SJD committees and monitor progress.
  • Assist with non-academic issues as needed in support of student affairs: housing, insurance, etc.
  • LLM and SJD Admissions Review applications and supporting documents.
  • Determine scholarship offers and work with individual applicants.
  • International Programs for JD Students—study abroad exchange students.
  • Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.  

Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with additional hours as needed.

Education Required: Bachelor’s
Education Preferred: LLM/SJD
Years of Experience Preferred: 1 or more years in higher learning

Additional Information

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent foreign law degree required. Master of Laws (LLM) a plus.
  • A global perspective and experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is a must.
  • Experience working at an institution of higher learning, including and recruiting students for international programs and handling study abroad and internship opportunities for students.
  • Excellent communication skills, outstanding judgment and a commitment to serving the needs of students are also required.
