The University of New Mexico African American Student Services Summer BEST Academy is an academic program that takes a holistic approach to shaping education for African American eighth-grade students.

The two-week academic program emphasized developing students’ math and science skills, introducing them to college life, and stimulating their interest in STEM degree programs and career paths.

One of the paths explored during the program was a career in law. The UNM School of Law hosted the students at the law school to show them what kind of careers, within the law profession, are open for students with STEM backgrounds.
