Shades of Purple, hosted by the University of Washington School of Law in partnership with the UW Office of Minority Affairs and the Diversity Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment team, is a student conference for rising high school seniors of underrepresented minorities. The program is open to all regardless of race/ethnicity, but specific focus is given to underrepresented minority groups to encourage them to attend the event. These groups include African American, Pacific Islander (Melanesian, Polynesian, Micronesian), Southeast Asian (Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Hmong, Mien, etc.), Hispanic/Latino, and American Indian/Alaska Native. Shades of Purple was created to encourage underrepresented minority students to pursue higher education. It gives them the opportunity to experience campus life, discover law, and learn about making a difference in their communities!
