Shades of Purple is a two-day student conference for underrepresented minority high school rising seniors (class of 2020) who are interested in attending a four-year university. The program focuses its resources on serving the following underrepresented minority groups: African American, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (Melanesian, Polynesian, Micronesian) Southeast Asian, (Vietnamese, Lao, Khmer, Hmong, Mien, etc.) Hispanic/Latino and American Indian/Alaska Native.
At the Seattle events scheduled in July and August at UW Law, students discover law through an interactive workshop introducing the intersection of law and social justice while promoting justice, equity, diversity and inclusion principles. "Shades of Purple in the Community" was created to encourage underrepresented minority students to pursue higher education as well as to give them the opportunity to experience life on a college campus.
