Drake University—Clark 150 Celebration

Friday, September 28, 2018, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT
Drake University Law School, Cartwright Hall
Des Moines, IA

In 1868—150 years ago—the Iowa Supreme Court handed down its decision in Clark v. Board of School Directors, which desegregated schools in Iowa—86 years before the US Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. Board of Education. The author of the opinion was Justice Chester Cole, cofounder of Drake University Law School. High school students from underrepresented groups are invited to attend a daylong symposium to learn about and discuss issues in the areas of justice and equality. Students will be encouraged to consider a legal education since there is still much work to do in these areas.
