Summary of Position
The University of Akron School of Law seeks to hire a dynamic, energetic, outgoing, and creative individual to join its Office of Admissions. The person hired as Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting with the recruiting of law students. S/he will also assist in the admissions decision process, arrange for visits and tours of the law school and campus, and support new recruiting initiatives. The Assistant Director will be assigned some projects by the Dean and will provide administrative and planning support to the Associate Dean for Administration & Enrollment Management as well as the Director of Admissions.
Essential Duties
• Responsible for processing all phases of applications through the LSAC Unite software, including:
- verifying completion of all applications and assigning to admissions committee for review;
- generating all reports, including whole committee reports, etc. as needed
- entering admissions decisions;
- managing all admissions office mailings, including sending decision letters and admit packets and/or emails;
- tracking seat deposits;
- tracking submission of additional required materials, including transcripts; and
- communicating with admitted students, as needed
• Planning and managing all aspects of admissions events for prospective and admitted students
• Grow and manage pipeline programs for prospective students, including Honors to Law, Pre-Law PREP Program and other pipeline programs
• Provide assistance and coordination of the law school’s recruitment, admissions and enrollment programs.
• Assist in all recruitment efforts for degree and certificate programs (in-state, out-of-state, and international)
• Local, statewide and national travel may be required. This includes appearances at universities, pre-law events, law school fairs, and other events
• Provide support for online and social media recruitment efforts
• Work to develop new, creative, and effective methods for recruiting law students
• Meet with prospective students; coordinate and provide tours of the law school, the campus and the Akron community; facilitate a positive experience at the law school.
• Assist in outreach efforts with other departments within the law school
• Explore and assist with law-based events involving high school and college students
• Represent the law school professionally in a variety of settings
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Position Information:
Required Qualifications
- Relevant bachelor’s degree
- Valid driver’s license
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in admissions/counseling in a higher education environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, public relations skills, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated computer skills; including spreadsheet, desktop publishing, presentation, and CRM/database capabilities, as well as experience with social media outreach and website
- Creative in producing printed and electronic recruiting materials
- Ability to provide counseling and advisement to students and parents regarding the admission process
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education administration (recruiting, admissions, student services).
- Demonstrated knowledge about the University of Akron School of Law.
- Law degree would be helpful, but is not required
- Superior organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Strong marketing and networking skills
- Attention to detail and ability to plan and meet deadlines
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders
- Experience in organizing resources and managing workload priorities
- Experience in organizing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
